hey all,
it's been a while, but there hasn't been a whole awful lot to post. well, now i have an upcoming show. howabout that? August 24 in Fredericksburg, VA with Racetrack at the Bourbon Room. originally, it was gunna be with Travis Morrison, so if you heard that rumor, it was at one point true, but his drummer apparently made other plans. bummer. no worries though, travis doesn't live too far away, so i'm sure he'll be around again.

soon i should be recording a bit at good ole blind cat studios with chip holt and perhaps getting a bit of mixing done by jason caddell and maybe even mg! the visionary. more on that later.

also, come to the derek webb benefit concert this friday night [aka tomorrow!]. check myspace for details.

ok, so there was some confusion a while back between certain people and myself about andrew wk and his history with wolf eyes. i think this excerpt of an interview with wolf eyes should clear things up:

SF: What did Andrew WK do when he played with you guys? I’ve heard various things, that he used to be in Wolf Eyes.

AD: He never really played with us. When Nate and I first started playing together—Nate did Wolf Eyes for a little while by himself, and then when I started playing with him is when Andrew moved here [to New York], and we talked on the phone a lot and bounced ideas off each others’ heads. He would record a bunch of stuff called Wolf Eyes and send it to us, so we have all these tapes that say “Wolf Eyes” and have all these song titles, but it’s all Andrew.

NY: He had another branch of Wolf Eyes going. He considered it a theory.

BT: As articulated in [Andrew’s zine] Wolf Slicer.

AD: Yeah, yeah. Then we moved out to play with him, be his backup band, when he first started writing all the songs that ended up on his first record. But he was way more just going for his own thing, and we were doing our own thing, and it didn’t quite…

NY: I learned to play “Party Till You Puke” on bass. He was like, “That’s good, man. This is going to work out.”

i'm sick... gross. called in sick on my first day of my new temp job.

recently, i wrote a song. it is a nice song. sounds happy, kind of like the 80's. the first line is "wax nostalgic until the moon is tired of your photographs." i usually try not to sound so sentimental, but i really like that line. the rest of the lyrics are ok, but they are all basically just trying to be as good as that one line. i try to comfort the other lines of the song by saying "hey, you're all good on your own merit too!" but they're all still very jealous of the opening phrase. and it's mostly true that they aren't as good, but since the melody remains the same (as good pop melodies do), they can at least feel connected to that first line musically. strangely, i think the song almost sounds like that poppy anberlin song, you know, "boys speak in rhythm..." i don't listen to much anberlin these days, despite their new album, but one time jean and jameson and nick and daniel and i slept at the lead singer's house in Florida. he has a super nice family, a great house, and his sister looks alot like him--it's uncanny. also, they made us breakfast!

ps speaking of jean, if anyone sees her tell her i'm sorry that she came to see me in the burg after i left. she texted me saying she wasn't coming, and then i left and my phone ran out of batteries on the way home and when i got home i just went to bed... so, i never got that message 2 hours later that she was on her way and needed to know where i was. alas! i hope she is doing well now that she's back in florida... i should probably call her...

fine. i'll post that mp3. it's to the left and right here. it sounds like a really rough demo, but i suppose that's what it is anyways... just don't say i didn't warn you about the ultra-rough demo-ness of it. the drum machine sounds like a drum machine. the vocals, well, if you think they get off rhythmically near the end, it's because they do. and i never got around to putting the keyboard track on... so, no complaining, just be grateful i finally posted the thing. at least you'll get an idea of what i'm playing these days, which is good. also, i'm thinking of performing under the moniker Crooked Dove. Kind of a play on that "Hawk&Dove" stuff I used to do, but more awesome sounding. There's a button that says comments below this post and I expect to hear what you guys think of the moniker--maybe it's just better to call myself Ryan Little, let me know what you think!

well, come see me on thursday at Bogart's if you can. I'll let you know about more shows as they arise.

for now, go listen to Maritime because lately I can't get that CD out of my car... it's just too catchy!!!!

business busyness - LOTS o' News

hey,
so sorry for the long delay in writing. firstly, it turns out i'm not the engineer i hoped i could be and the song just isn't where i want it to be, so i'm not posting it yet. secondly, i've been super super busy doing alot of booking for OTHER bands. If you have a band that needs shows, email ssbooking@gmail.com and i may be able to set you up with something. Right now, the biggest date you should know about is July 22nd--it's a benefit show at WEPC to help out the folks in the Darfur region of Sudan. crazy genocide going on down there. Most likely, Derek Webb will be playing this show, which is AWESOME because he is amazing. Also, June 27th is going to be a fun date, also at WEPC, with some hip hop, some hardcore, and more. come if you can.

and as far as myself, I'm playing THIS THURSDAY at the Bogart's Backroom along with the incredibly talented The Caravan (a HOT jazz+bluegrass group including Ed Dickerson, Little Dave, Andre, and Brandon). Show starts at 9pm and has a $5 cover. come come come!

hey guys,
sorry it's taking so friggin long to post the song. it's tentatively titled "so sane." as far as why it's taking so long... well, first i lost my mic cable and had to go buy another, then i stayed in fredericksburg longer than i intended, then i had to find some panty hose (yes panty hose) to make a windscreen for my mic--the takes i tried without a windscreen were just not good. after all that, i thought i would just do an hour or two of mixdown on cubase. ha. ryan the friggin perfectionist does no such thing. i've been messing with this song all day. for many, many hours. i could post it as is right now, but wouldn't you rather just hear the final product? well, regardless, i'm going to give you a little treat while you wait. it's an odd, abstract song i made while i was on drugs. legally prescribed drugs, mind you. still, i enjoy it. maybe you will too.

ok, so, i've been lagging in the updates. i apologize. but guys, this new song that i'm almost done recording (just gotta lay the vocals on top!), is killer. bass, drums, and guitar are already finished on the ol' tascam, and it's way cooler than i expected. maybe it's the combination of jazz, dance-rock, and mainstream hip-hop i've been listening to lately (the new Ludacris single anyone?), but this song is funked up for an indie kid. there are even keyboard parts in the works, but i probably won't record them yet--gotta make sure they're pure syrupy perfection!

so, i vow to have a rockin' mp3 up for you within the next 36 hours or may my tongue turn to dust. man... having no tongue would really bite.

it must be late; that was an ultra-lame joke.

ok, so i just posted one of my most recent demos called b0nes. i used a 4-track and then imported that to Cubase to add a few effects. all reverse guitarwork was done via 4-track. hope you enjoy it.

i'll have more content up soon, i promise!
